A BRIEF HISTORY
In 1968, four small South Carolina beach towns—Windy Hill Beach, Crescent Beach, Ocean Drive Beach and Cherry Grove Beach—located on the northern edge of the Grand Strand, joined forces to form the City of North Myrtle Beach. Their goal was to provide unmatched services to all residents and tourists, create a unique, safe beach community, and offer a place with superb recreation and vacation facilities.
North Myrtle Beach is a great place to shop at unique boutiques, eat at local, family-owned restaurants, or walk on the wide sandy beaches for which it is famous. It is also the birthplace of the ‘Shag,’ the official South Carolina State Dance.
Cherry Grove Beach is located at the northernmost point of North Myrtle Beach, SC. The perfect vacation spot, it is the home to quiet marshes, great fishing, shag music, and the most beautiful beaches for families. In Cherry Grove, life moves a bit slower—we often call it Cherry “Groovin.” You will find that most people travel by golf cart with sand on their toes. Flip-flops are always welcome, and relaxing is a must.
