Derek Daniel Calhoun began his military career in 2002. He is a combat veteran, having served as a Combat Engineer on three tours in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Derek and his wife Claire established Cherry Grove Beach Gear LLC in 2020. In 2022, Derek retired from active-duty service and is now able to be a full-time small-business owner. Now retired from military service, he can take that same pride he had serving his country to now serving the community and visitors of North Myrtle Beach.
We are proud to be a veteran- and woman-owned business and plan to serve the greater North Myrtle Beach area for years to come.
Our family has been living at Cherry Grove Beach for more than 12 years. For most of our lives, it had been a home away from home—the place to which we escaped. Living at the beach had been a lifelong dream, so when the opportunity presented itself, we jumped on it.
We had talked about offering beach gear rental services since our babies were little. We hated packing up all that stuff for a vacation—not to mention having to drag it all down to the beach and back. With chairs, umbrellas, pack n’ plays, boogie boards, toys, and strollers, there was barely enough room in the car for our clothes and necessities. Now that our kids are older, we wanted to help other families by making their vacations simple.
What started as a small business to make lives easier for families has grown into North Myrtle Beach’s first full concierge service. Not just chair rentals, but well…everything!
